If one were to be, say, looking at a flight to Australia for early January, would one prefer to fly through Hong Kong or Singapore? Should one, you know, be doing that. Not that I am. Because that would be making a commitment, which I do not do.

Well, if flying through Singapore means flying with Singapore Airlines - that's a huge plus. It's by far the best I've flown with. And I've heard the same thing from many other people.
If you're planning on speding a few days stopover, well, then that's a hard decision. I think both places would be fascinating to see!
